My friend Courtney is moving to Seattle and decided to celebrate her time in Madison by touring local supper clubs, taste testing old fashioneds (is that a word?), and classy pole dancing.
Everyone met up for the first old fashioned at the Old Fashioned. After boarding the bus, we were treated to a fine cheese and sausage plate accompanied by some bossa nova. After stopping at Kavanaugh's Esquire Club and the Wonder Bar (for more drinks and oysters Rockefeller), we once again found ourselves aboard the bus (which I think is when the playlist changed from classy to dance-y...and when the old fashioned jello shots came out). The driver took the long way, so 45 minutes and several wobbly dance parties later, we arrived at Toby's (which was a great experience all around). We finished the night with digestifs at the Tornado Room.
I can't really say who had the best old fashioned (because there were just so.many.drinks.). What I did learn is that old fashioned press (heavy on the bitters) is the way to go--not too sour, not too sweet.
Best of luck to Courtney as she heads west to begin a new chapter!
(special SO to Lee for the pics he snapped!)
